Large Magellanic Cloud Galaxy

Some time ago, an astrophysicist suggests that the giant spiral galaxies like the Milky Way have dozens or even hundreds of companion galaxies, both a size too small and faint visible in the night sky.

More recently, scientists are increasingly evident statement. Small Magellanic Cloud (The Small Magellanic Clouds) and large Maggellan Cloud (The Large Magellanic Clouds) are two examples of dwarf galaxies orbiting the Milky Way.

However, what makes the scientists interested in cosmic structures are smaller they have material that is darker.

Both dwarf galaxies were discovered by an expert from the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center (NERSC) named Sukanya Chakrabarti. Scientists woman uses a super computer at NERSC for a mathematical model to simulate a row of our galaxy and the surrounding materials.

With homemade technology model that, Chakrabarti successfully identified a large number of dark galaxies around the Milky Way. One of them, he said, lies opposite to the Earth in the Milky Way. The distance is about 300,000 light years from the galactic center. (1 light year = 10 trillion kilometers).

"Our approach has broad implications for many fields of physics and astronomy. He can not directly detect dark material that the average is dominated by dwarf galaxies, planetary dynamics, and evolution of galaxies are influenced by the surrounding satellite galaxies," Chakrabarti said .

Previously, he had originally presented the results of simulations of this year in Seattle, at the meeting of the American Astronomical Society. The work was doing when he was a researcher at the University of California at Berkeley (UCB).

"Right now, I use my method to perform gratvitasi test theories that have been modified, and plans to run the simulation at NERSC," said Chakrabarti. Reportedly, he will be presenting the results of the simulation in the form of three-dimensional.

Chakrabarti is currently an assistant professor of physics at Florida Atlantic University. "NERSC systems really speed up my work. System is a great resource," he concluded
